Power U 45: Learning From The Power Game

#PowerU 45 - I took a week off of PowerU last week to do a free offering of the Power Game to community here in the Metro Vancouver. It was an experiment to test a few things including what resources it would take to provide people with a good experience and how it would work with a diverse group of folks who don’t have a common interest in being there (outside of the first time I ran the game at Harvard, every session has either been with students or a client who is running it for their staff). Good news: the experiment worked and everyone had fun learning which is one of my favourite things about the game. We are already having unfun learning about power every day so one of the secrets of the game is that by making it fun it energizes the learning and makes you want to do a little more power literacy work. Thank you to UBC Sustainability Hub for providing the free space and to UBC School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA) for sponsoring the refreshments. In the debrief after we were done playing, participants identified seven key learnings from the day and that’s what we will be focusing on unpacking in #PowerU for the next while. One of my key learnings for the day: there is a lot of interest in the power game so I have re-started my newsletter to be able to capture people who have an interest in getting information about future power literacy opportunities.
